A Formal Description of the Transportation Problem
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper we provide a compact, formal description for an important class of problems involving the deployment of diverse equipment (e.g., planes, ships, trucks) to transport cargo (e.g., personnel and material) throughout large geographical areas for private, government, and military purposes. The problem is particularly interesting for its combination of static and dynamic sources of complexity, and the fact that it allows and in some cases strongly encourages distributed solutions. The merit of this formalization is shown by its application to both understanding the complexities in existing restricted transportation problems and creating new natural restrictions on the general problem. Starting from the general formulation we are able to isolate the static and dynamic sources of complexity in transportation problems and relate them to existing research in computer science and operations research. In addition, we describe techniques for constructing algorithms for the transportation problem with provable performance guarantees.

Web Service Choreography Verification Using Z Formal Specification
Web Service Choreography Description Language (WS-CDL) describes and orchestrates the services interactions among multiple participants. WS-CDL verification is essential since the interactions would lead to mismatches. Existing works verify the messages ordering, the flow of messages, and the expected results from collaborations. In this paper, we present a Z specification of WS-CDL. Besides ve...
متن کاملFully Fuzzy Transportation Problem
Transportation problem is a linear programming which considers minimum cost for shipping a product from some origins to other destinations such as from factories to warehouse, or from a warehouse to supermarkets. To solve this problem simplex algorithmis utilized. In real projects costs and the value of supply and demands are fuzzy numbers and it is expected that optimal solutions for determini...
متن کاملAn Efficient Genetic Algorithm to Solve the Intermodal Terminal Location problem
The exponential growth of the flow of goods and passengers, fragility of certain products and the need for the optimization of transport costs impose on carriers to use more and more multimodal transport. In addition, the need for intermodal transport policy has been strongly driven by environmental concerns and to benefit from the combination of different modes of transport to cope with the in...
متن کاملConversion of Network Problem with Transfer Nodes, and Condition of Supplying the Demand of any Sink from the Particular Source to the Transportation Problem
In this article we present an algorithm for converting a network problem with several sources and several sinks including several transfer nodes and condition of supplying the demand of any sink from a particular source to the transportation problem. Towards this end, and considering the very special structure of transportation algorithm, after implementing the shortest path algorithm or ...
